I have always wanted to go to New York. Ever since I was young, I have had this desire to travel to the big city and experience that fast paced living and high fashion. Unfortunately, it was hard for me to get there because of school, work, and life. On March 7th, my boyfriend and I FINALLY made our way to New York and what do you know, we had the most amazing time ever. Two of the most important aspects of the trip for us was shopping, and of course, the food. For those health nuts out there, dont worry! Josh and I did not step foot on a bus, metro, or even take a taxi anywhere. We walked EVERYWHERE. Yes, we felt it the next day but it was a good kind of sore feeling. We felt accomplished and refreshed to tackle the weeks ahead.
Shopping in New York was everything Ive been waiting for. Stores on every corner and shops on every street. HM, one of our favorite stores, was almost everywhere you looked. You were never more than a few blocks away from some of the best shopping stores. For those Kate Spade fanatics, the store on Madison avenue is four stories of pretty, witty, and charming decor. I felt fully inspired walking through this store. It made me want to host a champagne party with well-prepared hors d’oeuvres and delicately arranged flowers. The Urban Outfitters is every flower child’s dream. Here I ran through every part of the store saying I want this or take my picture here. If I could live in that building I would. I mean they have their own cafe and an entire section devoted to home decor. Any offers?
The food. Oh my goodness gracious the food. Mouth watering, delicious, tasty, and anything else you can imagine is exactly how this food tasted. So let’s start here.
Holey Cream, located on 53rd and 9th. Who doesn’t like donuts and ice cream? How would you feel about combining the two? Well this is the place for you! At Holey Cream, you can make an ice cream sandwich out of a donut and your choice of ice cream. Oh, and did I mention that you get to choose ALL of the fixings? Yes. This is a must see, must eat little ice cream shop right in the heart of NYC. For my ice cream sandwich, I chose chocolate icing dipped in chocolate sprinkles with chocolate espresso ice cream. Go ahead, say it! Chocolate overload! Trust me, it was just as chocolatey and delicious as it sounds.
Pick-A-Bagel, located on 53rd and 8th. This was such a great place to go for a quick, filling breakfast. Here you can choose from a wide variety of bagels and cream cheese or even build your own breakfast sandwich. The Bagel I chose was a big blueberry bagel with a smooth and creamy strawberry cream cheese. Yum! Josh on the other hand chose to create his own breakfast sandwich with bacon, cheddar cheese, eggs and an everything bagel. This was indeed the best breakfast sandwich I have ever tried.
Cafe Bene, located on W 32nd St. I really loved this place especially for the atmosphere. This well decorated urban cafe was in a very convenient location right near the heart of Times Square. We each got iced coffee and waffles. I have quite the sweet tooth so of course my waffle was loaded with hazelnut ice cream, chocolate drizzle, and raspberries.
The Black Tap, located on 248 W and 14th St. Let me just say this loud and clear. You need to go here now. Drop everything you are doing and go. Hurry. Not only are these burgers absolutely to die for, but the milkshakes are everything you have ever wanted. As a child (and adult), I have dreamed about ice cream that was made with everything I have ever wanted. Well this was the place. I got a cookie milkshake. The milkshake was made with vanilla ice cream a chocolate chip cookie crumbles, whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, a giant ice cream cookie sandwich on top, and the glass was dipped in icing and cookies. Are you there yet? #Blacktapthat
When we were done with our shopping and feasting on fantastic food, we ventured toward the Rockefeller center where we had afternoon cocktails on top the roof with three of my greatest friends. If you are feeling fancy and want to sip on classy cocktails then definitely find your way here. The view is breathtaking and you can see all of the pretty NYC lights.
Now I am back in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania dreaming of the big city and fast paced environment. Ill make my way back there soon and I guarantee it will be just as fabulous.
See you there,
Sami
