I want to introduce you all to my little pup Winston.
THE STORY
Ever since Josh and I moved back to Pittsburgh I had been begging for a dog. I even told him that if I found a dog that I loved I was getting it no matter what. There is a shelter about 30 minutes away from us called Animal Friends. This is a no-kill shelter in Pittsburgh so if you’re in the area and looking to adopt, I strongly recommend. Anyways, Im pretty sure I visited animal friends 3 times in one week just to visit the dogs. The first dog I fell in love with was a HUGE puppy named Zayne. His paws were giant and he was so funny. I called Josh to come meet the dog but he was at work so I had to do a little extra convincing to get him to come super fast. Josh arrives at Animal Friends, walks in and see’s Zayne. His immediate reaction “No. He’s going to get too big for our apartment.” I could have cried!! We both left and I went home, dogless.
The next day Josh and I were headed North to run some errands for our apartment. I asked him if we could stop at the shelter and see the dogs one more time. We walk in and felt like a magnet to the back kennels where Winston (formerly named Dozer) was sitting. Let me tell you, he was SO cute. It was love at first sight, I swear! I screamed across the room for Josh to come over and look at the most perfect puppy and he froze. FROZE! No words, no movement, nothing. An older woman came in and was handing treats to all the dogs, immediately approached Josh, grabbed his shirt collar and said “she wants this dog, what are you waiting for? Wakey Wakey!” I then said, were going to play with him right now. Josh and I got to meet him and take him for a walk. 30 minutes later, Winston came home with us!
We think he is a lab, pointer mix but obviously aren’t 100% sure. I would LOVE to get him DNA tested because I am so curious. My Spec, best friend (Kelsey Kruse) got her dogs tested and their results were so different than what she originally thought. She used a program called Wisdom panel.
After talking to her, I really think Im going to splurge and see what breed he actually is.
Now, before you get all “Awe how cute and precious” we need to talk about the real Winston. This boy is full of sass. Yes, he is needy and always requires my attention or he throws a fit. I love him so much but he can be very bad sometimes. If he has pointer in him like I think he does, that could be why his energy just doesn’t run out.
When it’s all said in done, Winston has brought Josh and I so much happiness. There is never a dull moment with this little guy. I’ll always be sharing about him on the blog so keep checking back for Winston updates.
